The unprecedented rains and floods in Chennai have affected Royal Enfield’s operations and manufacturing facilities in and around the southern city.
The floods caused by the rain have also impacted logistics and Royal Enfield’s supply chain, resulting in disruption of production. In a statement, the Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer said, “We have shut down our offices in the city and our plants in Thiruvottiyur and Oragadam since December 1. Due to the rains, the company had in November lost production of 4,000 motorcycles. We are working to ensure that all our employees are safe. We are monitoring the situation closely and hoping for normalcy to return soon.”
Royal Enfield has been on a roll in terms of monthly sales, clocking over 40 per cent growth in sales every month over the past six months. In November alone, Royal Enfield reported a 48 per cent increase in total motorcycle sales, selling 40,679 units.
The calamity in Chennai is certainly going to hit Royal Enfield’s sales numbers in December. More importantly, the disaster is almost certain to affect employees of the Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer and their families.
